GRAND RAPIDS — Lake effect snow will develop tomorrow afternoon and especially tomorrow night as a strong cold front pushes through West Michigan. The heaviest amounts will be along the shore to the southwest of Grand Rapids with winds mainly out of the northwest to north. Here, 2 to 4 inches of accumulation is possible by early Monday morning. Along the US-131 corridor, 1 to 2 inches of snow is in the forecast with lesser amounts to the east.

The lake effect snow will diminish by sunrise on Monday as winds shift more to the northeast and off the land. At that point, we will contend with a different aspect of winter: cold temperatures. In fact, it looks like the coldest air we’ve experienced so far this season with highs only in the lower 20s on Monday afternoon and lows in the lower teens (even some single digits in outlying areas) on Monday night.

Milder air will return for the end of the week, however. Be sure to click on the video for a look at your extended forecast.
