CLEVELAND (AP) — A California attorney who unsuccessfully sued the government at least twice challenging the use of the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance has filed a federal lawsuit in Ohio challenging a similar phrase on U.S. currency and coins.

Sacramento attorney Michael Newdow filed the lawsuit Monday in Akron. The lawsuit argues the phrase “In God We Trust” on U.S. money is unconstitutional and violates separation of church and state. The lawsuit wants the phrase prohibited from use on money.

The lawsuit represents 41 plaintiffs from Ohio and Michigan, including many unnamed parents and children who are atheists or are being raised as atheists. Defendants include Congress and various federal agencies.

A message seeking comment was left Wednesday at the office of U.S. attorney for Ohio’s northern district.

Atheists need to stop their nonsense garbage of these lawsuits. They are affecting my rights as a Christian. I don’t want to see “In Satan We Trust” on our money and I want Christ left in Christmas.

    • markvws

Really? How would your ‘rights’ be affected if these words were not on currency? Maybe you would feel better when you stuff a dollar bill into the thong of a stripper. What does that have to do with celebrating Christ’s Mass?

    • Bobby J

In what way does this affect your rights as a Christian? You can exercise your religion as you please, we just don’t want to see that nonsense on our nation’s currency.

      • J.B.

“we just don’t want to see that nonsense on our nation’s currency.”

Without that nonsense and the people who believed in it, you would not have a country..
not that it matters…if we keep importing the Muslim religion at the rate we are going all of our money is going to say “Allāhu Akbar” here in a few decades anyways.
And then atheists and “unnamed” parties etc..wont have a choice in the you yourselves will be “Banned”.

And just in case you think i am being against “diversity” and just being a “racist”….you should consider reading up on some history and actually reading a copy of the The Koran and pay close attention on its views of diversity and religious freedoms and multiculturalism……
As we continue to rapidly welcome and promote this new/ancient religious belief into our country…that quite literally makes any other belief or religion or even the complete lack thereof a crime punishable by death.
as we struggle to promote our own national agenda on the world…it always surprises me when one of the first things we want to incorporate into our society in the name of diversity and multiculturalism and respect for all individuals and their personal beliefs and freedoms.
is an “ideology” that’s one goal is to destroy any and all of those beliefs wherever it can find them….
if it was not for all those stupid Christians and their dumb beliefs in “nothing” over the century’s we would all be Muslims already and we wouldn’t even be allowed to have these silly conversations about your rights or what you do or dont believe in and how you “feel” about it..
you would be a Muslim from your birth, to your death and every second in between and have absolutely no choice in the matter whatsoever….not unless you wanted to get publicly executed of course! ;)
so enjoy stomping on the beliefs of others while it lasts my friend….the christian faith allows for such….
just keep in mind..your new friends and various other “unnamed parties” such as those supporting this great idea. Dont.

This is ignorant and sounds like a conspiracy theory. The reason you’re referring to us being in this country is because of freedom of religion, which means from religion as well. Britain having a national religion and forcing it upon others caused Christians to move to America. We wouldn’t all be Muslim if it weren’t for Christians. And us atheists don’t hate Christians. We just don’t want religion being forced down our throats, including ALL religions. Separation of church and state means no god on dollars, mottos, or anything dealing with OUR government, not just the religious.

        • Randall French

J.B. Your not referring to the Pilgrims are you? If you are have I got news for you. Ever hear of Native Americans then we have the Spanish in Florida in 1565, then we have the Roanoke Colony 1586, then we have the Pilgrims 1620. These four arrived before the country of America was ever thought of. The first three didn’t come here because of religious persecution so now you know the truth.

    • koss

So let me see if i get this. We live in a melting pot of numerous religions, and you are welcome to practice whichever you so choose without persecution (apparently someone may want to remind Trump of that) Yet yours is the ONLY one that matters and the whole foundation of your beliefs will crumble if we take a few words of a disease infested piece of paper. Is that correct? So since we are putting fictional character quotes on currency id like to see something from LoTR or Harry Potter next….just sayin

    • Merree

It’s all types of people so why alway place blame on people whom are atheist. Only my opinion but it’s just something else’s for people to fight over my daughter is atheist my self I’m unsure but if you can have it in the schools or on the field during games my have it on the money

  • Jay

Religion Is man made to control and separate people it’s fake God wants no part of these fake pagan churches aka (501c3 )God wants us to free and love one another God unites us not divide so if your religious establishment is tax exempt aka 501c3 they are not telling you the truth because they can’t they are limited what they can say due to the 501c3 contract this is a100% fact look it up this didt start till 1954 you don’t got to go to church to know your GOD and if you’re wondering what’s happening to this country why don’t you start to look at who’s been thrown out of this country for the last 50 years that would be why our country looks like it does today so maybe your right we should change in GOD we trust because I don’t think most Americans today do but I know I do I TRUST IN GOD why don’t you start thanking God for the things that he gives you instead of complaining about things he doesn’t JFK said it best don’t ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country maybe we should take this kind of thought process when we are talking to God

  • Brian

If you don’t like United States that was built on Christian foundation then move no one is forcing you to live here go live in China

    • koss

Incorrect….White Christian men STOLE this land from the Native Americans. Therefore this land was spiritual and with nature long before it was christian based. Just a little food for thought.

  • adam

They say its separation of Church and state? or is it really separation from God and people, having IN GOD WE TRUST on our money has nothing to do with a CHURCH ! The Bible says in the end times there will be a great falling away and people will turn there backs on GOD is this what is happening ? This country is all ready turned into sodom and gamorah GOD destroyed that, what do you think He will do to this country if we keep going down this road?
