PAW PAW, Mich. — Dash cam video from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office shows a 23-year-old Rachel Catherine-Rebecca Fox leading deputies on a high-speed car chase in Porter Township. Police say she was driving over 120 miles per hour and confessed to them about doing heroin only hours before.

“When I was going down [CR] 358 coming up to to CR 665, she actually blew a stop sign, popped right out in front of me,” said Sergeant Dan Abbott. “Overheads were activated and a pursuit started again.”

The first pursuit began after a deputy went to her parent's cottage because the homeowners, who were in Georgia at the  time, were told by concerned neighbors that someone had broken into their place.

“Once one of our deputies got out there on the scene, he was confronted in the driveway by a female who was later identified as the homeowner’s daughter,” said Abbott.

Within minutes, Abbott said, Fox took off in her car and the deputy pursued her. But he lost her because she was driving too fast. That’s when she sped past Abbott who then put the sirens on and began pursuing her. It wasn’t long before he caught up with her.

“She ended up trying to go northbound on 32nd at a high-rated speed and her brakes failed and down into the field and into the ditch she went,” said Abbott.

Abbott said a 24-year-old male suspect was also found in the house when the first deputy arrived. He added that Fox had an estranged relationship with her parents. So embittered that they hadn’t spoken in 10 years.

“After we ended up getting her to stop, she did fess up that she had actually, just recently, within a few hours prior, shot up with heroin,” said Abbott of Fox who has since been arraigned on several charges including fleeing and eluding police and breaking and entering of a residence. “So she was also charged with the an OUID second offense because she had a prior for operating under the influence.”
