Southeast/East Coast – The biggest storm this season will rapidly intensify and bring heavy snow and strong winds the next several days.

Winter Storm Watches are in effect from Arkansas to northern Georgia, and into north and south Carolina. A Blizzard Watch is already in effect for Washington D.C. and areas to the west.

The storm will track along the Gulf Coast tomorrow, and by Friday afternoon be located in central Georgia. Snow will spread into North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia with up to 12 inches by late in the day.

The storm will intensify rapidly as it move offshore by Friday night and Saturday. Winds will increase with gusts over 50 mph and severe blowing and drifting snow. Snowfall amounts by late Saturday could approach 2 feet.

The exact track of the storm is still not certain at this point. A small change in the storm track could have a significant impact on snowfall amounts and location of the heaviest snow.

For the latest on this storm check out the National Weather Service from Washington D.C.
