PAW PAW, Mich. – Michigan State Police announced Thursday they’ve made an arrest in a 1988 murder.

Guy Carl Simpson, 49, was arrested for his involvement in the murder of Charles Paul Miller of Bangor, Michigan.  Simpson has been charged with Open Murder, Felony Firearms and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

Miller was murdered in 1988, but his body wasn’t discovered until 2000 when troopers found his remains in a four-foot deep grave in Allegan County’s Casco Township.

Three suspects were initially questioned, but authorities didn’t have enough evidence to prove foul play at the time. One of those suspects was Simpson.

One of the other suspects – Junior Fred Blackston, 46 – was sentenced to life over an open murder charge in 2002 in connection with Miller’s death. His case was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, but denied in late 2015.

Troopers say that after the case denial, the Van Buren County Prosecutor reviewed the case file and found enough evidence to charge Simpson.

Simpson is being held in Van Buren County Jail.
