MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — One person was shot in the shoulder during a home invasion Saturday evening, according to police.

It happened around 7 p.m. Saturday at the East Park Manor apartment complex near Dyson Street and Howell Ave, according to Muskegon Hts. Interim Chief Joseph Thomas.

Thomas said the person was shot in the shoulder and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

No suspect is in custody but investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other, he said.

“This is the type of thing we’re going to be dogmatic about,” Thomas told FOX 17. “We’re putting together a program for that housing project  because we are aware of what’s going on over there and we want to send a message.”

Thomas said they will not tolerate these kinds of crimes moving forward under his watch.

“You are not welcome; the welcome sign in Muskegon Heights doesn’t mean everybody,” he said.
