WASHINGTON, D.C. – A ranking member of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Interior is making a formal request for a federal hearing on the Flint water crisis.

Rep. Brenda Lawrence of Michigan’s 14th District has made the formal request to Chairman Jason Chaffetz (Utah – 3rd District) and Subcommittee Chairman Cynthia Lummis (Wyoming – at large).

“The people of Flint have had their trust violated,” Lawrence says in the letter. “This public health crisis was caused by state and local officials, who made tragically bad decisions with the drinking water of Flint. Congressional oversight is need to set things right, on behalf of the people of Flint and on behalf of future generations.”

Gov. Rick Snyder is being called to testify. An official date has yet to be set for the hearing.
