Calhoun Co. officer injured by exploding truck tire

MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Calhoun County sergeant is recovering after being struck by an exploding tire.

Thursday afternoon at about 4:00pm, Sergeant Brent Lincoln was sent to reports of a vehicle fire on I-69 near the 37 Mile Marker in Marshall Township.  He found a semi-trailer on the shoulder where the rear tires were on fire.

As Sgt. Lincoln approached the truck, one of the burning tires exploded and a portion of it struck him in the torso.  He was taken by ambulance to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo with non-life threatening injuries.

No one else was injured.
