BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The suspect in an armed robbery, who fled police and was shot during a standoff, is in jail.

Derrick Shirk was hospitalized after being shot by a Calhoun County Sheriff’s sergeant on February 3rd after his vehicle was spotted as a suspect from an armed robbery on Jan. 31.  Shirk led police on a chase and then hid in a garage. He came out with an airsoft gun without the orange tip and waved it at officers.  Dash cam video shows deputies telling Shirk to put the weapon down, but he doesn’t, and is shot twice by the sergeant.

Shirk was hospitalized for the injuries from the shooting.

Court records show Shirk has a long list of armed robberies and other crimes dating back to 1982.
