MUSKEGON, Mich – A suspected heroin dealer is now in custody after a police chase in Muskegon, federal investigators say.

Police were sent to a home in the 800 block of East Isabella after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance on Thursday.  When they arrived, they encountered a man who wouldn’t identify himself, who then ran from police as they approached the outside of the home.

Muskegon officers gave chase for several blocks.  A U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force happened to be working another fugitive case in the area when they responded to assist in the pursuit.  Muskegon officers made the arrest, with federal officers immediately identifying the suspect as Martell Towers.

Towers was featured on West Michigan’s Most Wanted in August 2015, wanted on multiple warrants including distribution of heroin and for violating his supervised release after serving time for felony weapons possession.

His criminal history also includes prior arrests for assault, burglary, other weapons violations, narcotics and running from police.

The distribution of heroin warrant was based out of the Muskegon area, where investigators believed he was hiding up until the Thursday arrest.

Officers involved in Thursday’s chase also found suspected narcotics along the path of the foot pursuit, which will likely lead to new charges for Towers.

He’s currently being held at the Muskegon County Jail.  He’s also being held on a federal retainer for the supervised release violation warrant.
