It happened during the morning commute near mile marker 98.  The semi that was involved spun out and took up both lanes of westbound traffic.

Several other vehicles were involved.

The freeway was reopened around 9:30 a.m.

Why do people even bother driving on this section of the highway in winter? There is obviously something wrong with the combination of road surface and environment in this stretch of highway which makes it exceptionally prone to dangerous ice development. If it was simply a matter of the way people drive these accidents would be happening all along I-94 and not just between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. How many people need to die before the state does something about this? If all the semi drivers would get off I-94 and take King Highway between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek nice and slowly, backing up traffic as they go, I am pretty sure the state would step in and do something about it. Why we have to resort to things like that to get our goverment to live up to its responsibilities where soemthign as important as public safety is concerned is beyond me, but if that is what it takes, then we ought to be prepared to do it.
