KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff’s Department was made aware of a suspicious stranger who attempted to get a minor intoa his vehicle last week.

On Thursday, February 11, deputies say that a 13-year-old boy was approached after getting off a bus stop in Cannon Township by a man in a car he didn’t know. The man pulled up next to him and allegedly said, “Boy, I’m supposed to give you a ride.”  The boy said he wanted to call his mom first, to which the man replied, “No, it’s fine.” The boy then ran home and locked the door behind him. He said that he saw the car drive past his house before leaving the area.

The driver is described as a white male, approximate 50 years old, about 6″ tall with a slim build and a short black goatee. He was reportedly wearing a green winter hat and a brown leather jacket. His car is described as an older black four-door sedan with a greenish tint. All four hubcaps were missing and there were several rust holes littered in the body of the car.

Neither the vehicle nor the suspect are known to the boy’s family, and neither were spotted in the area before the incident.

Kent County officials urge parents to speak to their children about stranger danger. Suspicious vehicles can be reported to the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 616.632.6100.
