GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Calvin College spokesperson says that history professor Bruce Berglund was the man injured in a Wednesday evening shooting.

The shooting happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the area of Alger Street SE and Blaine Avenue SE, about a block away from Alger Middle School.

Berglund was shot in the abdomen.  He was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

Police say he and his wife were out for a walk when they were approached by two men.  They demanded that the woman hand over her purse and when she did they ran away, according to investigators.

While they were running, officials say one of the suspects turned around and fired a shot, striking Berglund.

The suspects are still being sought by police.  Police describe one of them as a black male standing about 5’8″ and weighing around 150 pounds. The second is said to be a 6’3″ black male, weighing approximately 220 – 230 pounds. Both were said to be in their early 20s.
