WHITEHALL, Mich. -- Some parents with kids enrolled in the Whitehall school district are on high alert after a recent testing of the water at a school building showed elevated levels of lead.

A letter was sent to parents on Wednesday alerting them of the situation. It explained that one water source at the White Lake Community Center was tested after an employee complained of discolored water coming from a sink in the staff room.

Two samples were taken from that source. The running water test came back clean, but the standing water test showed elevated levels of lead.
Superintendent of Whitehall District Schools, Jerry Mcdowell says they took action right away.  He says they covered the water fountains with bags, provided bottled water to students, and started further testing.

So far, the results of two other tested areas inside the building have been returned to the district, both came back clean.
However, the district isn't out of the woods just yet. They are currently waiting to receive the results of all the samples taken for testing.
We'll follow this story and bring you those updated test results when we get them.
