Winter storm on the way for Wednesday

WEST MICHIGAN - (Updated by Joe Kopecek) The snow returns Wednesday!

Winter Weather alerts have been issued for much of the state of Michigan starting Wednesday and lasting through Thursday.

A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect for Ottawa, Kent, Montcalm, Allegan, Van Buren, Barry, Ionia, Kalamazoo, and Calhoun Counties (and further south)starting at 10:00am Wednesday and lasting until 4:00pm Thursday.

A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, and Mecosta Counties (and further north) starting at 3:00pm Wednesday and lasting until 4:00pm Thursday.

Precipitation is expected to begin in West Michigan after the morning rush hour. It may start as a rain/snow mix before changing to all snow by noon. The snow will become heavy by the afternoon hours and continue overnight. Grand Rapids is expected to get in the range of 4 to 7 inches of snow, with heavier amounts south and east, and lighter amounts north and west.

Winds will also increase on Wednesday from the northeast to north at 25-35 mph. Winds gusts will approach 45 mph and combined with the heavy wet snow will likely cause power outages.
