ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau is investigating the death of an inmate at the county jail, after he was found hanging in a single person cell on Saturday night.
Officials say staff members took several measures including using an AED and CPR to save the inmate. He was taken to Lakeland Medical Center’s Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.
The inmate has been identified as Martell Hadley, 24. He was on parole and recently sentenced for fleeing and eluding police 4th degree.
An autopsy is scheduled in Grand Rapids on Monday.
