ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) — An autopsy shows a 24-year-old inmate found hanging in his cell at a southwestern Michigan jail died of asphyxiation caused by the hanging.

Berrien County Sheriff L. Paul Bailey says in a release Tuesday that the investigation into Martell Hadley’s death is continuing and that a complete report from the autopsy could take several weeks.

Hadley was in a single-person cell Saturday night at the Berrien County Jail in St. Joseph when his body was found by officers.

He was on parole and recently sentenced to prison for fleeing police.
