Calvin Johnson retires from Detroit Lions

DETROIT, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced Tuesday morning that wide receiver Calvin Johnson has retired.

Johnson has been with the Lions for nine seasons and has been one of the best receivers in the game. The team says that Johnson filed his retirement papers with the NFL today and the retirement is effective immediately.

Johnson finishes his career with 731 receptions and 11,619 yards and 83 touchdowns.  He played in 135 games in his nine year career, never playing fewer than 13 games in any one season.  He played in all 16 games in 2015, with 88 receptions, 1,214 yards and nine touchdowns.
