KENTWOOD, Mich.  — Kent County prosecutors say no charges are planned after a 3-year-old boy found a gun and accidentally shot his mother in the head in February.

The mom wasn’t seriously hurt.

The incident happened February 20th when the 26-year-old mother was cleaning the family SUV at their Kentwood home. Police say the boy found the gun in the SUV and fired a shot hitting the woman.  The gun jammed after being fired once.

The gun belonged to the boy’s father, who told police he often travels with it.  He legally owns the weapon.
