GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A West Michigan teen shares his story of wanting only one thing: to be adopted.

FOX 17 continues our Forever Home series with 15-year-old Nick, a teen in the Michigan foster care system.

Nick loves the outdoors, and he is as sensitive and caring as he is brave.

After years of moving between temporary homes, Nick is asking families to consider choosing him, to finally give him his forever home.

Totally in his element, Nick spent the afternoon with FOX 17 at the Blandford Nature Center.

“I just like to hear the birds and owls and crickets,” he said.

Nick is a natural with animals and hopes one day to have a pet.  He spent some of his childhood on a farm, He felt at home collecting chickens’ eggs and foraging through the woods finding chives.

“I’m just not really scared of anything, like animals,” said Nick.

A high school freshman, Nick said he loves reading and learning history. He said he’s focused on higher learning and going to college.

“[I want to] get a master’s degree and get a job,” he said.

Now living in a group foster home, Nick said he’s like a natural older brother and hopes to have siblings of his own one day.

“Teach them how to do what’s right,” said Nick, explaining he is responsible.

He also hopes to go camping and have quality time with a family who loves him.

“I just hope I can get a family, I know there’s one out there wanting a teenage boy,” said Nick.

“It’s pretty painful. I just go by outside, see other family people, mom and dads loving their children. Sometimes I just shed a tear or two.”

As a 15-year-old, Nick has less than three years to be adopted. Once he turns 18 he can apply for services through the state until he’s 21, though truly he would be on his own.
