LANSING, Mich. - For the first time since an audit shed light on mismanagement at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, the public had a chance to voice their concerns to lawmakers.

There were two hearings in Lansing Thursday - one before a House committee and the other in front of a committee from the Senate.  Those speaking today provided some tangible actions that they'd like to see happen in the near future.

  • Resignations - People were called out by name, including Governor Rick Snyder.
  • Ending Privatization - Bring the facility back to being staffed by a public workforce to address staffing issues and incompetence.
  • Oversight - Hiring an independent ombudsmen for residents and their families to lodge complaints.

Lawmakers and advocates also talked about holding future hearings at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, so lawmakers could hear directly from residents and families.
