TROWBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Allegan County Sheriff's Department says an 18-year-old woman was killed Tuesday after her car was struck by a box truck before crashing into a home.

Murphy Charis Peters of Plainwell was driving eastbound on 102nd Avenue when she reportedly ran a stop sign at the M-40 intersection at about 9 a.m.  The sheriff's department said in a release that she may have been using her cellphone at the time of the crash.

Peters was pronounced dead at the scene.

FOX 17 spoke with the owner of that home Tuesday night. He told us he's seen his fair share of crashes, but the one Tuesday morning was "the worst one yet."

Now, all that's left from the crash site is broken glass, cinder blocks, and a small memorial for the Plainwell senior, set up by friends of hers who say they’ll miss her dearly.

"I'll never forget her, she was my best friend," said Silence Guyton, one of Peters’ friends. "She was just a positive energy. She could make anyone’s day, all she did was make people laugh and make jokes all the time. She was just awesome."

Guyton said she last time she saw Peter's was just a few hours before her accident Tuesday morning.

"It just doesn't feel real," she said.

As for the homeowner living on 102nd and M-40, he's hoping tragedy never strikes there again.

The 42-year-old truck driver was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
