WEST MICHIGAN — This weekend will start out quiet, sunny, and mild with southeast winds on the backside of an area of high pressure over Lake Ontario. Temperatures will reach the lower to middle 50s, which is a bit above average for this time of year.

Just in time for Easter, however, we’ll be tracking an area of low pressure now over Kansas moving to the east and northeast into northern Indiana on Sunday. Plenty of rain will develop on the north side of this low as it moves towards us and it looks like an upper level disturbance moving in from the southwest will intersect this low  Sunday afternoon, causing it to strengthen and develop a prominent rain shield.  The rain could even be accompanied by a few rumbles of thunder, especially to the south of Grand Rapids.

As of now, our model is suggesting a half inch to an inch of rain will fall late Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning, with the highest totals along and north of I-96. We’ll continue to watch this system as we head through the weekend, so be sure to tune in to FOX 17 for more updates.
