Battle Creek schools propose reorganization

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Public Schools have released a proposal for reorganizing the schools in the district.

According to Superintendent Kim Parker-DeVauld the district would like to reorganize to include two early learning centers for Pre-K to 2nd grade, two elementary schools for 3rd grade to 5th grade and one Pre-K to 5th grade building to remain.  Three of the five elementary schools would have under 500 students.  The other two would have between 500 and 600 students.

The reorganization would also include expanding smaller learning academies across the high school and starting an alternative high school.

The proposal will be submitted for final board of education approval during the week of April 11.

Community talks are scheduled for feedback:

  • Wednesday, March 30 – 9:00am at the Administration Building
  • Wednesday, March 30 – 7:00pm at the Administration Building
  • Thursday, March 31 – 6:30pm at Fremont Elementary
  • Friday, April 1 – 6:30pm at Urbandale Elementary
  • Monday, April 11 – 6:30pm at Dudley Elementary
