WYOMING, Mich.–Rueben Riley, the former Dean of Students at Wyoming High School and a former NFL star, pleaded no-contest to charges against him Monday, and was sentenced to probation.
Riley was charged with assault and battery after a police investigation into his removal of a disruptive student from class on January 26.
The incident was caught on school security cameras, and showed Riley in an altercation with the student at first in the hallway, and then in the school gym. At one point, the teen was thrown to the ground.
Riley also had served as the assistant football coach at the school.
He had been scheduled to go to trial on Thursday, March 31, but instead came in three days prior and entered the no-contest please.
The judge sentenced Riley to six months of "non-reporting" probation, $935.00 in fines and costs, and this is a suspended sentence. Meaning, if Riley completes the six months of probation, pays the fines and costs, and does not get into any trouble, the case against him will be dismissed.
