NORTON SHORES, Mich. — The first step in the rehabilitation of the interchange at US-31 and Pontaluna Road was the closure the bridge over the freeway Monday morning. The project will continue through late June.
While the Pontaluna Road bridge will remain closed during the entire project, there will be ramp and lane closures, says the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The ramp from northbound US-31 to Pontaluna Road will be closed from April 11 through mid-May. The ramp from Pontaluna Road to northbound US-31 will be closed at the same time.
The ramp from southbound US-31 to Pontaluna Road will be closed from mid-May through late June. The ramp from Pontaluna Road to southbound US-31 will be closed at the same time.
There will also be lane closures at times on US-31.
MDOT recommends using the Sternberg Road interchange as a detour.
