ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Allegan County Sheriff’s Department deputies Saturday morning shut down the northbound lanes of US 131 due to multiple accidents and slide-offs.

Dispatch told us that they blocked off the northbound lanes at the 64 mile marker near Dorr.  They said the accidents were caused by the slick roads and weather conditions.

The southbound lanes of the interstate remained open.

The northbound lanes reopened for travel just before 10 a.m.

MDOT thinks the winter ends March 31 in Michigan I guess. No salt trucks out anywhere yesterday, despite knowing ahead of time that this was coming, and despite an admitted surplus of salt for the roads. There is no excuse for this, and I hope the people involved in these accidents sue the state for failing to adequately maintain safe roads when it is entirely within their means to do so! We have had enough of this abuse in Michigan!!!

Side note to Fox: Mile marker 64 is just south of Wayland, which is itself about 4 miles south of Dorr. I think you mean mile marker 68.
