WEST MICHIGAN — A winter weather advisory will go into effect Sunday morning at 5 a.m. and will expire at 2 p.m. Visibility will diminish at times throughout the morning due to heavy snow bursts. Expect slippery road conditions for areas North of I-96.

WinterWeatherAdvisory

The image below shows snow moving Northeast through Three Rivers, Grand Rapids and the lakeshore towns North of Holland. The heaviest snowfall totals will be along and North of I-96 with 1 to 3 inches expected between 6 a.m. and noon.

By lunchtime a system from the Southwest will inch it’s way into West Michigan turning the morning’s snow to sleet. The rain will fire off in Southwest Michigan first and then extend all the way into Big Rapids by dinnertime.

For all those who aren’t fans of the snow there is some good news in tomorrow’s forecast. Rain and warmer air from the South will move in by the afternoon. That rain will help melt the snow faster than if we were to just see sunny or cloudy skies.

Notice the temperature map below shows warmer air moving in from the South. Daytime highs will near the low 40s for most spots, but areas North of I-96 will have to wait for the warm air to arrive.

Warmer weather and sunny skies are in view for West Michigan. The current outlook is showing sunshine and 60s by the end of the week.
