ROCKFORD, Mich. — A 60-year-old woman was revived with an automatic external defibrillator (AED) after collapsing at the Art Van Sports Complex.

It happened just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Lieutenant Jeff Drake, with the Plainfield Fire Department, told FOX 17 the woman was walking to the bleachers to watch her grandson play baseball when she went into cardiac arrest.

Authorities said two physicians who were guests at an event happening at the complex were called to help when the woman collapsed. With the help of the complex's manager, the three individuals used the AED on the woman who was resuscitated within minutes.

Once paramedics arrived on scene, the woman was conscious and taken to the hospital for further care.

Lt. Drake says this is why the 9-1-1 community is encouraging recreational facilities, like Art Van Sports Complex, to get A-E-D devices.

"I’d have to say that’s 100% the reason she’s alive today," Drake said. "Without the electric shock, it's very difficult to get the heart restarted."
