At several state parks around the Mitten, the Michigan DNR and Fishmas are offering free Walleye fishing classes in different counties throughout the summer.

The two-hour class is part of the DNR’s Recreation 101 program which informs fish enthusiasts of the seasonal habits, proven techniques and good tips and tricks to catch the elusive Walleye.

Classes will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the following parks:

Sterling State Park (Monroe County): Friday, May 20
Algonac State Park (St. Clair County): Friday, May 27
Silver Lake State Park (Oceana County): Sunday, June 12
Ludington State Park (Mason County): Friday, July 22
Burt Lake State Park(Cheboygan County): Friday, Sept. 2

At the end of the program, two lucky class participants will be drawn to go out on a Walleye fishing excursion with Fishmas Charter Captain Ken Clark.

Walleye enthusiasts of all skill levels are encouraged to attend this free event. Participants 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
