DETROIT, Mich. – Starting in 2017, your Detroit Red Wings will be playing hockey in Little Caesars Arena.

The team made the announcement Thursday morning for the new stadium in downtown Detroit.  The team is owned by the Ilitch family that also owns the Little Caesars pizza chain.

The multi-use arena is the centerpiece of the $1.2 billion District Detroit development.  The Red Wings also released this photo of an artist rendition of the ice for the new arena.

The 20-year naming rights agreement averages out to $6.25 million per year. Little Caesars will also sponsor the team’s web site and social media starting in 2017.  The deal is estimated to be the largest investment in a naming sponsorship for a building where the sole professional sport to be played there is hockey.

The arena is expected to also host concerts and other events.  The arena will have over 20,000 seats.

Little Caesars was founded 57 years ago in Detroit, according to current president and Little Caesars CEO David Scrivano, in a press release.

Other Landmark Sponsors already onboard for the arena include Comerica Bank, Meijer, Inc. and Saint Joseph Mercy Health.

We’ll have more from Detroit on later editions of FOX 17 News.
