IONIA COUNTY, Mich. - Police are searching for a pet bearded dragon named Lou after it escaped during playtime with its owners.
The 21 inch pet lizard went missing Tuesday. Its owners say they're desperate to find it before it's too late. Lou's owner, Josie Barthel, says Lou the friendly lizard was an early birthday present for her 7-year-old daughter, Brooklyn.
"He's like part of the family, he hangs out on the couch and even sleeps in my daughter's bed with her," said Barthel.
Brooklyn and her friend Ava Brown were playing with Lou in their backyard on Jones Street when Lou disappeared.
"He would probably go somewhere where he sees worms," Brown said.
Unable to train the dragon to stay, Lou's friends and family, even the Ionia County Sheriff's Department are now looking for Lou. Barthel remembers her daughter taking Lou out of his cage when she was asked not to. The family said they're broken over their pets disappearance.
"He’s usually not supposed to be in temps below 65 degrees so I didn’t want the outcome to be devastating," Barthel said.
Anyone with information on Lou's whereabouts are asked to call Ionia County Central Disptach at (616) 527-5737.
