KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Sharon Coulter is resting a little easier tonight after former attorney Gary Fields has refunded her the $850 she paid for his services. The Kalamazoo woman said she entered into a contract with Fields and paid him in late 2013, but he soon disappeared.

Months went by and she said no work was done on her long-term disability case. In fact, she said the attorney stopped responding altogether.

Today, the FOX 17 Problem Solvers got an envelope in the mail from Fields and had quite a surprise for Coulter. The Problem Solvers delivered the check to Coulter today.

Coulter said, "My mind is at ease right now."

She added, "I didn't dream I 'd be standing here with a check for 850 bucks."

During our investigation, the Problem Solvers found out Fields lost his law license in 2015 for allegedly doing the same thing to other clients. State records show he was ordered to pay just shy of $50,000 in restitution to his victims. Coulter didn't know of Fields legal woes. To her, Fields the attorney had vanished. So she reached out to the FOX 17 Problem Solvers for help.
