KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich.,-- A short chase in Kalamazoo County this week ended in dramatic fashion. It began on May 9th, when Kalamazoo Township Police were tipped off about a stolen vehicle involved in a retail fraud in Allegan County.
Officers spotted the vehicle around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Douglas Ave and W. Mosel St., but say the driver would not pull over. After a short chase, the suspect came to a dead end in the 2300 block of Woodward Avenue. Instead of stopping the vehicle, the suspect bailed out of the moving car and took off running.
Meanwhile, the car continued down the street, over the curb and down into a ditch. The passenger, 28-year-old Ashley Stapler emerged moments later and was taken into custody.
After a short foot chase, the suspected driver, 20-year-old Deontae McMillon, was also placed in cuffs.
Both are currently in the Kalamazoo County Jail. Their case has been forwarded on to prosecutors to review and determine charges.
