GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A couple from Ottawa County left a Garth Brooks show in Grand Rapids Saturday and headed for the hospital to welcome their new son to the world.
Jacob Bichler says he and his fiancé Emily scheduled a C-section Monday, so they opted to attend a Saturday show instead of going on Sunday. Brooks performed at six shows at Van Andel Arena over the weekend.
However, Emily started having contractions during the concert.
"She was actually in labor during the concert," Bichler said.
By the time Brooks finished his final encore around 2 a.m., it seemed the baby was ready to make his entrance.
"We had to go to the hospital, and she was in labor," Bichler said.
The couple welcomed baby Jaxson at about 5:30 a.m. Bichler says both mom and baby are doing well.
Even though they didn't name the baby after Garth, they say Jaxson is definitely a country fan, too.
"He's got to be, especially after this," Bichler said. "I'm definitely keeping that ticket stub for his baby book, that's for sure."
