GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Officials at North Ottawa Community Hospital are asking for help in finding the mom of a newborn infant that was dropped off at the facility.
According to the hospital, the infant was brought to the hospital Saturday at about 6:20pm, by a friend of the mother. The baby was brought presumably under Michigan’s Safe Delivery of Newborns law, which allows for a biological parent to bring their child to an Emergency Service Provider and relinquish parental authority.
Since the baby was brought by someone other than the biological parent, the hospital is trying to make sure that the decision to bring the baby in was voluntary, and that the child wasn’t abducted or abandoned. The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety is involved to make sure that no laws were violated.
The hospital says that communication with the parents of the child will remain confidential under the Safe Delivery of Newborns Law.
