WEST MICHIGAN — It certainly has been beautiful outside lately. Today should make five days in a row with highs at 70° or above. It’s also been dry, however, with our last measurable rain in Grand Rapids falling over a week ago when 0.34″ fell on May 14th.

Although we’re not facing drought conditions, it’s dry enough that you’ll want to watch any outdoor burns very closely.

Here’s a look at today’s fire danger map, courtesy of the NWS office in Grand Rapids:

With dry conditions expected to persist tomorrow, the fire danger will remain elevated once again. On Tuesday, humidity levels will be on the increase and rain is likely by Wednesday. This chance of rain will continue through the rest of the week, which will allow the fire danger to drop off considerably. Until then, be extremely careful with cigarette butts and any outdoor burns… Especially north of Grand Rapids where fire danger is highest.
