KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo County courthouse is having an “Amnesty Day” this Thursday that can help some people who have outstanding warrants.

The plan is to help people clear the slate on warrants for failure to pay. It will also provide payment plans so people can have options on how much and when to pay.

Community service is even a possible option for some who may be having financial difficulties.

You must have unpaid fines and costs owed to 8th district court.

“You come in here, you’re not going to be subject to arrest,” says Richard Santoni, a judge with the 8th district in Kalamazoo County. “You come in and identify yourself, we check you for a warrant, and if we find it, we cancel it, we give you a payment plan, you’re on your way home.”

Amnesty day is Thursday May 26 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The courthouse has a list of people with outstanding bench warrants posted on their Facebook page.
