WEST MICHIGAN — Initially this weekend will feel much the same as yesterday with warm temperatures and a little sunshine. Humidity will be somewhat higher, but temperatures will be almost as warm as yesterday with highs expected to reach 80° or so in most areas.

Changes, however, await just upstream from us. A slow-moving area of low pressure is approaching Lake Superior as of this writing, and is dragging a series of fronts with it:

This warm front will only briefly lift through the southern half of the area this afternoon, then a cold front will quickly follow this evening. Out ahead of this cold front, expect showers to push through the area, possibly with a few embedded thunderstorms. This is the way Future Track HD sees things later this evening:Future_Track_2

Some rain will still be possible through the overnight and into Sunday, especially Sunday morning. Here’s a look at estimated rain totals: Future_Track_Rain_Fcst

Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning, low pressure will stall over eastern Canada. The unsettled atmosphere associated with this low and the counterclockwise flow around it will mean a few widely scattered showers will be possible during that time period. Temperatures will remain on the cool side of average with highs hovering around 70° and lows in the lower to middle 50s.

This low will finally lift far enough away from us on Wednesday to allow our weather pattern to shift to a warmer and drier one. Highs should warm into the lower to middle 80s by the end of the week.
