Kalamazoo community leader, Dr. Charles Warfield, dies

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A major Kalamazoo figure in education and civil rights has passed away.

Dr. Charles Warfield died over the weekend, according to his family.  Warfield worked at Western Michigan University for 41 years and served on numerous boards, including the Kalamazoo Board of Education.  He retired from WMU in 2013.

Dr. Warfield was also the current president of the Kalamazoo NAACP chapter. In February, Warfield led a community discussion in Kalamazoo on the dangers of lead in drinking water.
