Man pleads guilty to two Grand Rapids shootings

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty totwo 2015 shootings in Grand Rapids.

Sanqua Dion Cummings pleaded guilty to a total of 10 felony charges connected to the two incidents, including two counts of assault with intent to murder, one count of armed robbery and one count of first-degree home invasion.    He also pleaded guilty to being a fourth-time habitual offender.

Cummings was charged in connection with a July 25, 2015 shooting in a parking lot in the 2000 block of S. Division and a shooting on Aug. 4, 2015 during a home invasion in the 1100 block of Alexander SE.

In the July shooting, a man was shot in the face. The victim has since recovered.  In the August shooting, police say that Cummings was part of a group of men that stormed a home and shot a man seven times. The victim recovered but was unable to identify his assailants.  One of the members of the group testified to Cummings’ presence at that crime.

Charges connected to a July 15 armed robbery at Martin Luther King Park were dropped as part of the plea deal, Grand Rapids Police said Monday in press release.

Cummings still facesa murder chargein connection with the shooting of 17-year-old Marquaan Crosby.   That shooting happened Aug. 12, 2015 near the intersection of Adams Street and Marshall Avenue SE.

Cummings is scheduled to be sentenced in the parking lot shooting July 14.  He faces a minimum of 25 years behind bars, according to a release.
