COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.-- Saturdays track and field state finals was the finish to a highly successful high school athletic career for West Catholic senior Carl Myers.
"It was definitely a great feeling," said Myers, "kind of put my senior year to an end, so I`m really happy about it."
Carl defended his state title in the shot put and won the discus as well, finishing a track and field career with three state titles to add to the three state championships he helped West Catholic win in football.
"It's been a really great run, you know, having great coaches all throughout and it`s been really worth it. I'm glad I spent all the time that we spent doing it for the sports and we love it, so it`s great that we was able to end this well and I`m very happy about it."
While his high school career has come to an end, the next chapter is just getting started. Carl will head to Ann Arbor as a preferred walk-on defensive end at Michigan.
"It's right around the corner when I leave, so it's coming up," said Myers. "I'm really looking forward to it, it's a great class to be coming in, there's a lot of great guys, a great coach, so it's definitely gonna be worth it. A lot of hard work, but it should pay off."
And Carl is considering doubling that work load. As one of the state's top throwers his services are sought on Michigan`s track team as well.
"Yeah, I've been in touch with coach Clayton, he`s the U of M throwing coach for boys, so hopefully everything works out and I'm able to throw a little shot put while I`m there, as well. I'm really looking forward to it."
