KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Abigail Kopf, the girl critically wounded in a mass shooting in Kalamazoo in February, has had a setback in her recovery.

Family posted on the Facebook page the chronicles her recovery that the 14-year-old will have undergo surgery to remove a plate that was inserted into her head to get rid of an infection.  She had the plate implanted in May to replace part of her skull that was severely damaged by a gunshot wound.

Last week, family posted that she was dealing with an infection at one of the incisions and that surgery was a possibility, but the infection was being treated with antibiotics.

The family says that the plate will be removed and she’ll have to go six to 12 weeks before it can be replaced again.

Kopf was one of two survivors of the February 20 shooting that left six people dead at three scenes in the Kalamazoo area.
