MUSKEGON, Mich. -- While Deyonta Davis isn`t exactly known for showing his excitement, his high school coach Keith Guy knows the feeling is setting in for Deyonta with the NBA Draft on Thursday.

"We talk at least once or twice a day and he's very excited," said Muskegon High School basketball coach Keith Guy.   "He's working very hard, training two or three times a day and you know, he's just working out for teams and interviewing with teams and, you know, going through the process and enjoying himself."

As excited as Deyonta is now, it was a difficult decision to leave Michigan State after just one year on campus, but with the belief that he could be a lottery pick and the chance to accomplish his life long dream, the opportunity was just too good to pass up.

"All the intel supported, the data supported that really he should make the leap at this time," explained Guy.  "But it was difficult, because he loved being at Michigan State, he loved the program, loved coach Izzo and his teammates and the campus, but it was just one of those decisions that he had to make."

Deyonta is projected by most NBA Mock Drafts to go in the late end of the lottery, but it`s not so much where he gets picked, but who he gets picked by.

"Not about necessarily the pick itself, but it's about the fit and hopefully he'll get to a program or organization that will kind of develop him and give him time to grow as a young man and as a basketball player," said Guy.

At this time Thursday night Deyonta will know his new NBA home, an exciting thought for his mentor and high school coach, especially considering how far the 2015 Michigan Mr. Basketball has come in just a short period of time.

"Two years ago he was just signing to go to Michigan State, he was just leaving Muskegon for the last time," said Guy.  "Now he's got an opportunity to put on a NBA uniform.  I'm just so excited for this young man."
