- The Grand Rapids skyline could be growing with a new downtown building that would be the city's tallest one yet.
A developer has filed documents with the city to build a 42 story, 418-foot tall building at Ionia and Fulton Street, across from San Chez. It would go in that small, wedge shaped parking lot right behind police headquarters.
The Hinman Company, in Portage, is behind the project.
The building would include retail space on the ground level, 10 stories of hotel space, and apartments on top of that.
The city's managing director for design and development says that this would truly change the city's skyline.
The project still needs approval from the city, as well as a height variance.
2. It’s another big weekend for sports in Grand Rapids.
Thousands of athletes will be in town for the summer version of the Meijer State Games of Michigan.
The opening ceremonies are tonight at Fifth Third Ballpark and the public is invited.
Everything runs from 2 to 9 p.m.
Admission is $6 for people 10 or older, and free for anyone nine or younger.Parking is $6.

4. It’s a shocking day for many in Great Britain.
The UK will be leaving the European Union after the results from Thursday’s votes were tallied.
British Prime Minister David Cameron, who fought tooth and nail for Britain to remain in the EU, announced he will be stepping down while the British pound suffered one of its biggest one day drops in history and the stock market took it's biggest hit since 2008.
The economic shockwaves have hit the U.S. market as futures are off three percent ahead of the opening bell in New York.
5. Tomorrow marks the start of the St. Patrick's Parish Summerfest in Portland.
A perfect forecast is set for sporting events, activities for kids, and lots of homemade food.
There will also be a wine and microbrew party, as well as live music, and classic cars along the street.
On Sunday, there will be an outdoor mass at Alton Park at 10:30 a.m., as well as an all-you-can-eat dinner that evening. Most of the activity will be happening along Grand River Avenue.
