GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Credit card skimmers have been found recently at three Michigan gas stations, including two in West Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says skimmers were found Saturday at a Shell Station, 544 68th St. SW in Grand Rapids, and a J&H Family Store, 2271 Port Sheldon St. in Jenison.

The third skimmer was found Tuesday at a Mobil station in Grand Ledge near the westbound I-96 ramp and M-100.

Credit card skimmers make copies of consumer’s card information when they pay for gas. They’re installed inside the actual gas pump, which makes it difficult for customers to notice them.

Officials say to check for unbroken red tape and suspicious damage at gas pumps before putting a credit card in.
