GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Tickets for a special Founders Beer dinner on the Gillette Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids went on sale Thursday.

The dinner is the fundraising portion of Tribute on the Grand, coming up on September 10. The dinner is a fundraiser hosted by Founders Brewing and sponsored by FOX 17 as a fundraiser for Grand Rapids Whitewater, the group charged with restoring the rapids in the Grand River. Tickets are available by clicking here.

Tribute on the Grand will be an afternoon and evening filled with tribute bands, food trucks and a beer tent at Ah-Nab-Awen Park in downtown Grand Rapids.  The event is free and expected to attract about 6,000 people.  80-100 volunteers are needed for the event, and if you’d like to help out, click here.

Bands that are scheduled to appear include L.A. vation, a U2 tribute band, Free Fallin’, a Tom Petty tribute band, and Brother Wolf and the Wolf Pack from Mars, a local David Bowie tribute band.

A fake Bowie band, a fake Petty band, a fake U2 band…dinner will be imitation crab legs, dessert will be soy “ice cream”, and your drink vouchers will be good for Founder’s “near beer”. Afterwards watch some guys carrying around big signs with pictures of fireworks on them, and tomorrow on this website you can read about all the people who pretended to have a good time.

And don’t forget to come back to GR in the fall when ArtPrize is running, so that you can see all the faux art!

This city is so freaking shallow and transparent it is embarrassing.

Just be glad you don’t have to pay the rent on one of those “tribute to affordable housing” apartments they are building!

Here is what I love about this:

In other words, we are going to have an event, but we’re too cheap to pay people to staff it, so we are looking for people to show up and work for free. We’ll call you volunteers though, so you can at least delude yourself into thinking that you are doing something positive, rather than just enabling our cheap, third-rate effort at hijacking what used to be one of the city’s highlight events and turning it into a promotional event for our already over-hyped brewery.
