HOLLAND, Mich. — The Holland Department of Public Safety has a 34-year-old Holland man in custody for an armed robbery that occurred at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

At that time, Public Safety officers were dispatched to an armed robbery that had just occurred in the 400 block of Washington Avenue. They were told that an employee of the store had just been robbed at knifepoint and that the suspect had fled on a bike.

Officers obtained a suspect description and video from a security camera and were able to connect the suspect to another recent larceny reported on July 1.

After sharing the video images with Holland police officers and Ottawa County Jail deputies, several officers and deputies recognized the suspect as someone that had been dealt with recently and confirmed his identity through local records.

A Holland Public Safety officer found the suspect riding a bicycle on Ottawa Avenue where contact was made and the man was arrested.  The bike he was on matched the description given by the caller and some of the stolen money was recovered.

The suspect is currently being held on charges of armed robbery and larceny plus on an unrelated warrant.  He is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
