Officer with West Michigan ties among Dallas ambush victims
NORTH MUSKEGON, Mich. — One of the victims in Thursday night’s shooting of five police officers in Dallas, Texas had Michigan ties.
North Muskegon police told FOX 17 that Frank Krol of North Muskegon was notified Friday morning by Michigan State Police that his son, Michael Krol, was one of five officers killed by a sniper in Dallas last night.
FOX 2 Detroit reports that Michael Krol was a Redford native who once worked for the Wayne County Corrections Division. He worked in the county jail system from 2003 to 2007 when he moved to Dallas and became a police officer.
FOX News is reporting the identity of a second officer, Patrick Zamarripa, 32.
Zamarripa had served three tours in Iraq with the Navy and leaves behind a wife and two-year-old daughter, according to FOX.
CNN reports one of the five killed was Brent Thompson, a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer.
Thompson, 43, a nearly seven-year veteran of the transit force, got married in the last two weeks. His spouse was a fellow transit officer.
Seven other officers were wounded.
