KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A person of interest in the decades-old murder of teen Erik Cross has waived his trial on to circuit court.

Brent Spaulding was set to appear in Kalamazoo County District Court Tuesday on domestic violence charges, unrelated to the Cross case. Prosecutors told FOX 17, Spaulding waived his preliminary exam, and his case will now be passed to circuit court.

Tuesday, supporters of the Cross family flooded the courtroom, all dressed in purple shirts that read ‘Erik’s Army’ across the chest.

“Erik hasn’t really been laid to rest, and he needs to be laid to rest properly,” said one supporter outside of the courtroom. “His family deserves that, the Vicksburg community deserves that, all of us want to see that and that’s what we’re working for.”
